Soul Spaces 117 – Self-Care
Now more than ever we need to take exquisite care of ourselves. Please make sure you are nourishing your body, mind, and soul. Photography is one of the ways I anchor myself in joy, wonder, and connection.
Here are some of my favorite tips for self-care.
- Spend time feeling gratitude, appreciating the gifts in your life, allowing your heart to overflow with blessings.
- Simplify your life by doing less and focusing on what you most value and enjoy.
- Spend time with people who nurture and accept you.
- Practice loving-kindness to people, plants, animals, and the planet.
- Frequently commune with your spiritual source; meditation, prayer, creativity, nature, etc.
- Focus on empowering thoughts and ideas.
- Enjoy fresh air and exercise or movement daily.
- Drink plenty of high-quality water (6-8 glasses a day).
- Eat more simple, natural foods, including live foods daily.
- Reduce or eliminate your intake of processed foods, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and other drugs.
- Nurture yourself, including making time to simply relax and be!
- Set yourself up to succeed by making changes in small, doable steps.
- Reduce your media intake (especially the news) and screen time.
- Relax and enjoy life along the way to your goals and destinations.
- Go play. Let your inner child sing, dance, and explore life with innocence and curiosity!
This is one of my all-time favorite videos created by Louie Schwartzberg and narrated by Brother David Steindl-Rast. Just watching helps boost my gratitude, energy, and emotional state. Enjoy!
May beauty, wonder, and gratitude fill our hearts and overflow into our community.
Outstanding video, I loved it, Brad and felt so connected with nature. Am going to write a poem from this video. Lovely post and I completely agree with you. This is the time when we all need to keep our selfishness and be selfless and love and kindness to each and everyone and be thankful to God who has given us everything. Let us all pray for our World to be better and that our Nature once again is full of joy and harmony. Thank you so much. Love and Light to you.

All great tips my friend. Very happy you included gratitude and appreciation as the very first one. People fail to realize how important they are or the medicinal power behind them. When you learn to focus on appreciating what you have, you have less time to stress the things you don’t have.
Wishing you a thousand blessings of sunshine and love.

Lots of fantastic ideas here. The gratitude thing is something I really need to get back to. hard to be cranky when you are grateful. I wanted to introduce myself as I am returning to the blogging community. I am autistic and I am an author. My book is a book of memoirs called The Driveway Rules and it deals with my struggle with relationships, thoughts on sobriety, often incorporates humor and shows how rules are important to me and I look back at my struggles with acceptance rather than bitterness.

I love your list, many of my activities and things I do… plus taking a nurturing hot bath, lighting candles, and reading poetry. Your list makes me think of more things on my list and maybe making a neat and tidy list like yours to put nearby in case I need to look at it, and I probably will… good to get it out of my head and out somewhere.
I am so glad that you are taking good care of yourself. I have a lot of faith in you.

Such a wonderfully helpful and healthy post, Brad. I asked my husband to help with number 13 and he agreed. It’s helped reduce the stress level around here a lot. And a beautiful photo! I love azaleas and hope to plant some this year. It helps to have something to look forward to too. 🙂 Thanks for the smile.

Beautiful tips and reminders of what we can all do…. Thank you for this Brad and for that beautiful image of blossom and colour .. Thank you also for the video… Gratitude plays such a vital role in our energy frequency… And as the late Dr Wayne Dyer said..
“Be in a state of gratitude for everything that shows up in your life. Be thankful for the storms as well as the smooth sailing. What is the lesson or gift in what you are experiencing right now? Find your joy not in what’s missing in your life but in how you can serve.”
Thank you dear Brad in serving us with your love and light..
In love and Gratitude 🙂 ❤

Great reminders Brad. I spent hours in my yard yesterday with only the sounds of the neighborhood and the birds. It was just what I needed to quiet my mind. I am so grateful to have a yard to retreat to. Keep shining your light.

These are great self-care tips, Brad. Self-care should be taking up habits that will benefit us long term, and your points definitely allude to that. The less screen time one jumped out at me. That’s something I need to think about. Working from home I feel like I am sitting in one place all day and night in front of the screen more than usual, so I need to be mindful of taking more breaks. I was reading a few posts back and read you weren’t too well with strep throat. Hope you are recovered now and take care in these strange times.
