LAPC #293 – Water in Motion

All life on earth depends on water, yet water is a treasure we don’t always appreciate.

Dancing light, color, and a touch of magic in this flowing creek.

This week Sofia Alves invites us to share photos of water in motion and remember the beauty and preciousness of water. Thank you Sofia for the beautiful photos and reminders.

More magic in the reflections and refractions of Lee Creek.

Sometimes it takes a weather event or disaster to realize the importance of water in our lives. Many researchers predict that water will become more precious than oil, gold, or any other resource. Sadly, wars will probably be fought over water. The strains of not enough water have been showing in the booming Southwest US for years as water demand strips the availability. California, Nevada, and Arizona depend on water from Lake Mead and the Colorado River fed from snow melt in the Rockies of Colorado. The once mighty Rio Grand River flows from Colorado to the Gulf of Mexico but often runs dry. The river is in severe decline due to overuse, diminishing supply, and contested water rights. With climate change, some areas are seeing more rain and water than normal while others are receiving less than normal. May we learn to better appreciate, share, and protect our waters.

Lake Wilson reflections.

I love how the clouds and sky are reflected in the waters of Lake Wilson. Even though waters are often in motion, they offer us moments of stillness and beauty. And lakes absorb the dirt, minerals, and pollution from whatever water feeds them. We are all connected and downstream when it comes to water

Simple beauty. The raindrops on this yellow iris warm my heart.

Splish, splash, we’re taking a bath. Time out for play and laughter feeds the soul.

May we remember the precious gifts of water and life, protecting and sharing them.

  1. Yowza! Your photographs are particularly spectacular in this blog post, Brad! Water deserves much more awareness and respect here on planet earth. And as you well know, this is a topic dear to my heart which once inspired me to write a song. Here’s a link to a blog post which includes that song in case any of your readers/commenters are curious. (https://amusicalifeonplanetearth.wordpress.com/2024/03/17/more-ode-to-water/) ps: I wish I had had access to some of your wonderful photos to include in my post instead of using Pixabay. You really have a great eye!!!

  2. From start to finish, I loved every word and every image, So reflective of you. Love your play with light this week. The colored reflections in the creek, the magical look of the floating flower, the clouds, and the drops. All of it. Fantastic.

  3. These might be my favorite photos you’ve shared Brad. They are truly spectacular and ethereal. Really shows the aliveness of water and its cosmic nature. We, here, in Nevada do know the preciousness of water which adds to our joy in seeing lots of snow… knowing it will support the land and life to thrive. Being a water sign, I appreciate water’s wisdom of fluidity and flow. Thank you for sharing these beautiful windows into the wonderful world of water and for your words that highlight a need to be more present with all the riches around us that are taken for granted while living the fast lives.

  4. Your photos are beautiful, Brad. And your words are profound. Man, I don’t think people realize where we are heading – it’s terrifying. I am always conscious of how much water I use and do my best to use it sparingly. It’s not fair that we have unlimited access while others are dying without it. It truly feels like we are living in the upside down. Thank you for always bringing beauty into our world and for reminding us what is important. HNS, my friend. x

  5. You are so right Brad.. Water is more precious than any of us realise… In fact we are a water planet… The Blue planet.. Water is being discovered to hold consciousness, and we too are made up of water to a good percentage,, And without it like the plants and animals etc would die and not exist without it..

Yet there must surely be as much water on earth as there has always been, yet with the altered weather patterns, some places now are no long in balance… They either get too much or too little…

May we Pray that the World finds its balance as we enjoy Life giving waters that cleanse, heal, rejuvenate, as it hydrates both us and our lands…

I wish I could share the excessive amounts of rain water with you we have had in the UK Brad… Our farmers fields, many are underwater, and wheat and potatoes are not going to be plentiful at the years end, because they cannot even get planted..

Perhaps when we begin to live in Balance… The Earth will too… As above so below.. As within, so without… :-) 🙏

You shared some wonderful images with us Brad… Thank you for those stunning photos xx ❤

  6. On yearly road trips to San Francisco we noticed the change in Lake Shasta as its water receded and revealed ever more feet of beach, it’s been awhile since we visited California, I wonder what the lake looks like now? Thank you for sharing your beautiful words and peaceful images, Brad!
