People Here, There, and Everywhere

This week Tina asked us to share photos of people here, there, and everywhere. Most of my photography revolves around nature so this was a hard challenge for me. I generally avoid photographing people, especially without their permission. Surprisingly, I was able to dig up a few photographs of people, mostly family, friends, and people getting married. This also speaks to my lack of travel to Europe or other cultural destinations. I have enjoyed photographing at a few weddings, having the freedom to choose whatever shots I wanted. The challenge also reminds me that people are important even if my life doesn’t seem to reflect that.

My friend Andrea had a beautiful outdoor ceremony on her brother’s land surrounded by family and friends. In this shot, she is walking with her dad, led by a niece as a flower girl.

Her many nieces and nephews were all part of the ceremony.

A Mardi Gras parade on our downtown square that I shared photos of last week.

I don’t know if this was a planned or spontaneous event, but the kids were having a blast while playing in the soap bubbles.

About 13 years ago when I was attending Unity and actually had a social life. We had our picture taken at the restaurant after celebrating a member’s birthday. The gift of connection.

Mom never liked having her picture taken as you can tell in this photo!

May we know the gift of love and people, here, there, and everywhere.

  1. Photos of weddings — especially in beautiful outdoor settings — always put a smile on my face. And the one of your mother is wonderful. I love how vibrant her outfit (with matching lipstick) was that day…even if she did not enjoy having her picture taken. You also found some great quotations. This one is new to me: “I love mankind … it’s people I can’t stand!!” ~ Charles M. Schulz. It reminds me of how I feel when I ride my bike in traffic. Thank you for yet another lovely blog post, Brad!

  2. Once again you rose to the challenge. So many great pictures! The fun of human life here, Brad. And I love the photo of your mom. My dad is like that too, and it makes me smile to see their mugs. Loads of personality comes through even if (they think) they’re ruining the pictures. 🙂

  3. Thanks for sharing these Brad. While it seems most of us avoid photographing strangers, it’s important that we capture the important people in our lives as the years go on. As you say it keeps our memories stronger and I find we can smile and laugh about the moments we’ve captured that bring our loved ones back to us if only for a while. Wonderful images and loved your closing sentence.

  4. I love that when we take a photo we look at it and then we take it out at a later date and we end up seeing something slightly different in it or even have a different emotional connection. I found this today when my niece posted a photo I took 27 years ago approx. It had 3 of my nieces and my eldest son. One of my nieces I see only on FB and have not seen in person since that day as my brother sadly died. That photo I have forgotten I had even taken it. It was great to see. Love people in photos. Thank you for sharing yours.

  5. Love your many photos of being together with others Brad. I’ve always loved taking photos and creating my albums to keep memories of my life alive! What beautiful experiences you treasure! Here’s to making many more experiences with others as well as nature! Much love x

  6. Brad, your people photo post is imbued with love, warmth, connection and joy! From the happiness of a wedding, the laughter of children in bubble heaven, your mother’s film star pout – a terrific picture and love her outfit and vibrant nature here! Haha! You guys in the photo there of your group! Such laughter!

  7. I have to admit, I really enjoyed these photos. I love your nature photos too, but people are interesting Creatures aren’t they? However, the wedding photos are spectacular and beautiful. And the ones at the little kids are so adorable. I have a sister-in-law who says “I hate people.” She is a really nice person, but she really does not like people. Sometimes it’s easier to be alone, but most times connections are invaluable. 💞

  8. One of the greatest inventions ever was the camera. How amazing is it that we have photos of people to cherish and hold onto. That one of your mom, Brad, is gorgeous. It must make you smile each time you look at it. I miss the days of photo albums when you could pull one out and slowly go through the photos and reminisce. With digital images, I’m not sure we do it as often. I’ve decided to make albums for myself. I want to sit on the floor years from now and let each page take me back in time and to a place that makes my heart skip a beat. I love your challenges; you always find beautiful people and things. It always inspires me. Have a great weekend, my friend. Huge HNS 🌸💕

  10. This was fun, funny and ell thought out. Beautiful photos of the wedding, and I lied the one of you and your friends. The “good ole days never disappoint”. Friends… The Sewell quote is spot on. And my favorite is of your dear mama. That generation loved their lipstick. lol. Love your moms spirit. May she continue to rest or… stir up the fun in heaven.
