Play Time!

It’s time to play!

Like many of us, I get caught up in my life and routines and tend to fall into a boring or even heavy seriousness about life.

Thankfully, I’ve been getting nudges about play lately, so I’m taking this as a sign to play more in my life. It’s time to drop the terminal case of seriosity, put on my mustache and have some fun!

My inner child wants to get out, play, explore, try new things, be silly and generally let loose a little. Since I’ve been itching to travel, but have no current plans, I’ll create a local adventure to explore some new terrain or new places I wouldn’t normally go. Maybe I’ll go to a biker bar, senior dance, or something equally out of my ordinary routine.

Sometimes all it takes is looking with fresh eyes like a child exploring their world with eyes of wonder and delight. Or maybe I’ll simply go play in the park, swing on the swings and see what mischief we can stir up.

When I do play, I always feel refreshed in mind, body and spirit.

I’m also playing along with Ailsa at Where’s my backpack? with this week’s Travel theme: Play. Maybe you have some travel or play adventures to share.

Bella and Willie again!

I found a late entry to delight children of all ages. My inner child is itching to go see this amazing miniature wonderland in Hamburg, Germany. The Miniatur Wunderland has the largest model railway in the world, along with moving people, cars and even planes! Or maybe we’ll just have to build our own wunderland. Check out this amazing creation.

I hope you find some adventures and opportunities to play this week. Play! It does a body and soul good. 🙂

  1. Brad, thanks for this reminder:-) As playful as I often am, I too get tangled up in “seriosity” fairly often. Coincident with this topic, I’m currently reading a book by neuroscientist Jaak Panksepp, The Archaeology of Mind. His research suggests that play is one of our primary emotional systems (along with many other mammals). This video gives a taste of what he’s exploring: The Primal Power of Play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYwTmaUQmoY

    • Thanks Dave! It’s nice to have you join my playground. I really liked the video. It’s good to know we’re working on the science of joy and play has proven value. Not that I needed a scientist to tell me! To the power of play. Jugando! Gracias my amigo.
