This week Awesome Stories brings you gratitude, compassion, and environmental stewardship.
Compassion
This is one of the most touching stories I’ve seen recently, especially as it highlights a very personal and powerful example of using communication consciously and compassionately as I promote so often on my blog. Sarah Silverman recently received a very harsh and ugly comment on her twitter feed. As a comedian known for her sharp wit and words, it’s amazing how she chose to respond. Sarah responded with compassionate and sympathetic tweets that started a whole conversation that the man says helped change his life. She recognized the pain under his rage and choose empathy as the way forward. She wrote “All I know is this rage — and even if you could kill him— it’s punishing yourself. And you don’t deserve punishment. You deserve support.” Then she used her network to help find the man support which he accepted and is now tweeting about how grateful and supported he feels!
A Legacy of Stewardship
I’ve always admired North Face and Patagonia for their environmentally conscious values in doing business. But I didn’t realize they shared a common history and how much Douglas Thompkins and his wife Chris have done to shape the future of eco-conscious business and stewardship on a grand scale. They created the largest conservation efforts ever in South America and the level of care and detail in their conservation plans are amazing. His passion for nature led him to high standards like the bodacious goal of giving half the land back to nature! They set a profound example of what can be done with inspired leadership and conservation. Thank you Doug and Chris!
Gratitude Practices and Benefits
There are so many benefits and ways to practice gratitude. Here are two approaches that I like. The first is to think of at least one specific thing you can feel grateful for right before bed so that you go to sleep with a sense of gratitude and comfort. The second is to use a jar to collect gratitude. The idea is to find things you’re grateful for and write them down on slips of paper to put them in the jar. Then periodically go back and reread them to remind yourself of the blessings and reinforce the feelings. This article explores how gratitude can contribute to peace and connection. When we acknowledge the benefit we’ve received from others and tell them, we help them feel appreciated and reminded that they matter. This also helps us recognize the value of others and motivates us to give back, creating ripples of gratitude and good deeds in the world.
I’m very grateful for each of you who takes the time to visit, read, like, comment, and connect on my blog. You constantly remind me of the beauty of blogging as a way to connect with people from around the world. Thank You!!!
May we acknowledge the beauty and benefits of our interconnection.
Beautiful stories. I admire what Sarah Silverman did. That was high class and has even taught me something about the compassion I can give to trolls. 🙂 That’s also really neat about what North Face does, as well as the third story here with practicing gratitude. Good stuff!

Chris says at the end of the clip: “Whoever you are, whatever you’re good at, you get out of bed every morning and do something.” A call to action, indeed.
As usual, the stories you share are awesome, Brad. Uplifting. I couldn’t read the Washington Post article, but how many times have we wished we could have taken a deep breath and replied to an antagonist with compassion, instead of anger. Good for her!

Gratitude is not a high-standard moral behaviour, but an internal fruit that’s developed. Amazing video. Honestly, writing the good things is good but also we must be grateful by the bad things since they help us to mature

I agree JM that we must learn to be grateful for everything, then the learning and tasty fruit will develop. Thanks for visiting and commenting, Brad
