Winter Wonderland

the weather outside is frightful
my lovers lips are so delightful
our kisses ignite a torrid fever
waking the mystic dream weaver

Yesterday, I woke up to a winter storm warning in addition to the coldest temps in nearly a century! The temperatures are in Fahrenheit. And today we’re expected to have another snow storm with 6-8″. So rather than complain about it or post on Facebook like many of my friends, I decided to embrace it if only in my imagination. Actually, I’ve been outside walking, photographing, shoveling snow, and generally enjoying the cold in brief spells. Then I retreat to my warm, cozy, and safe home. I am very grateful for having a warm and safe shelter. Sadly, there are many people who don’t due to homelessness, eviction, illness, or weather related challenges like power outages and frozen equipment.
Light your fire and embrace the life you have.
Jesus, this is scary. Looks beautiful, though.

Beautiful poem, Brad. All the more reason to stay cozy inside. You remind me of gratitude, today and always. A dumping of snow around here the past few days. Also, photographing, walking, shovelling (thanks to my husband). Thank you for a great reminder to embrace the life we have.

Thank you Erika. I needed the reminder to be grateful and embrace my life too. Enjoy!

Excellent post. Yes time to embrace the life we have.
Those of us who have a safe warm home to retreat to are indeed very fortunate. We had a visit from the Beast from the East a week ago and now it’s very mild.
The words of the song are very uplifting:). Stay safe and warm. Janet :)X

Thank you Janet. I’m glad the Beast has left you and grateful to be learning some of these important life lessons. 🙂

It’s very mild today – rainy but mild, and it’s supposed to be more so for the weekend with sunshine:). My favourite expression, ‘this too shall pass…’comes to mind.

Lovely poem and 📷 photos! I’m happy you’re finding the gifts to be grateful for in everything. I find it makes such a difference for me too. ❄ Jack Frost sure is enjoying his season this year. 😉

Thank you dear Tania. I’m grateful for you and friends who sprinkle a little joy when they visit. I hope Jack Frost leaves soon! ❄

Great poem, photos. I hope the warm weather arrives soon to your neck of the woods – that just tooooooooo cold for me.

It’s funny, I used the word embrace in a reply comment to you just now and here I find the word peppered throughout your beautiful post!

Thank you. I love the word embrace. Precious is another I’ve been embracing lately!

I recently bought a small book called The Lost Spells…a book that conjures up the lost words from the Junior Oxford Dictionary, it’s a companion to The Lost Words book…precious feels like a lovely word to embrace before it vanishes!

I would but my snowblower literally caught on fire a couple of weeks ago. So I think I’m going to spend the next two weeks shoveling out my driveway :-).

Oops! Sorry about your blower. At least you’ll get exercise. 🙂

How many nches did you get?

Thanks Drew. We had about 7″ first time, then another 4 today. It’s very pretty, and I’m getting tired of the cold.

It is very pretty. Not like the snow n NYC which would soon have dogs using it as bathrooms. You area seems to preserve the beauty of the snow mch better.
We still have so much more of winter to go, I am afraid there is more snow to come.

Yes, it’s a smaller area. DC was like that and ours still gets dirty. I searched out the pristine areas right after the snow.

Sadly your weather sounds very familiar to where I am hunkered down in VT….Very cold and snow day after day. I’ve never wanted to see spring more than this year. So ready for warmth and color and birdsong to return. Stay warm and stay safe Brad….It won’t be much longer. I HOPE! VK 🙂

I hope it won’t be much longer for you VK. I know I would have a hard time with a long cold extended winter. I can handle it for short spells like we get here in AR.

I love this Brad!! I like your attitude about the cold, too, because sometimes my winter attitude plunges with the temps. But instead, I’m going to try “waking the mystic dream weaver.” What a perfect wonderful line!

Thank you Pam. That line took me a long time to get right. Some versions were too silly and some too racy! 🙂

Your poem gave me a smile, Brad. I love the original song. You are fortunate that the weather hasn’t effected you more adversely. I believe its causing a lot of problems in Texas and some other states in the USA.

Thanks Robbie. I love the original song too and was thinking of it as I started the poem. Thankfully, there have been a few short outages in our area but nothing major.

We are fortunate indeed, Brad, to have warm, safe homes. with so many relatives in the US, I spent a lot of time worrying/praying/checking in with those on the west coast during the fires, and now I’m doing the same with those in other states who were without power and heat. Things are stable right now.
Stay safe and well, and enjoy the snow!

Those temps were normal for Vermont, where I lived for years, Brad, but my heart goes out to anyone unprepared. The situation is devastating for so many. I’m glad you have a warm place and therefore can enjoy the delights of deep winter in small doses. That blue sky isn’t too shabby at all. Lovely poem. ❤
