Melancholy Moments
~
hazy mist conceals
dark melancholy moments
hidden dangers lurk
~
cloudy perspectives
landscapes shrouded in gray fog
time to look within
~
This is my contribution to Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday with the image and Sue Vincent’s haiku as prompt.

I love this image and the accompanying words. We have had quite a bit of mist lately and I love the quietness that come with it. It’s as if the world is taking a nap. Thank you Brad. 🙂

Beautiful, Brad. The prompt was so evocative. I especially like the “looking within.” So often that’s where the lasting clarity and light can be found. Well done, my friend.

Agreed Diana. I needed the reminder because I still look without too often! It’s good to allow different feelings and ideas to express in my poetry and writing. Maybe one day I’ll work up to short stories or a short book!

Sometimes I think poems are stories condensed down to their essence. You have the core, so if you ever decide to write a story, you might take that essence, add characters and setting, and bring that seed to life. I love to see what you come up with. ❤

Thanks Robbie. We didn’t have this weather or mist, although I would welcome it. I simply let my muse play with the image and writing challenge from Colleen and Sue.

The words draw me in within …is it the haze itself that creates the meloncholy?
I like the reminder if things get blurry, stay within and trust. Beautiful poetry – it actually brings up the feeling in me.

The marriage of the visual and the verbiage is perfect to create the feel you were after….awesome and sad. Hope all is well!

You could have been stood outside our home Brad, as this picture depicts the dark dreary misty rainy dull damp days we have had in the UK recently..
Lovely poem…. May your melancholy moments be few and far between.. 🙂 ❤ 🙏💚
Have a wonderful day and weekend Brad…
Stay Blessed and loved my catch up ❤

Thanks Sue. I actually wasn’t feeling melancholy. That is simply where the prompt took me. I appreciate you and your concern. 🙂 🙏💚

I love the way you use the view of the landscape as a metaphor for journeying within, where dangers can also reside!

Powerful piece, Brad. Matching the photo so well, but also the mood this year has brought us ~ life is so far off track from what it is normal, it makes it easier for us all to stumble into those “dark melancholy moments, hidden dangers lurk”. Well done ~ and wishing you a great final month to 2020, and a super holiday season.

Thanks Randall. It’s interesting how often an image, mine or others, stirs feelings and inspires me to pen a poem. Yes, lots of stumbling around this year. Thankfully hope seems to be hovering and growing. May this season fill our hearts and inspire a year of love and progress.

So perfectly penned to match the emotions of the photo, Brad!
What a perfect photo for the topic as well. It’s funny to me how I see black and white and shades of gray during the “down” times…and a kaleidoscope of beautiful colors when “UP!” (It even happens in my dreams!)
Stay well…and I hope that all is going well for you ❤

Thank you Lorrie. I’m glad my muse awakens periodically to write some poetry or life musings! I experience much the same around colors and my moods, feelings, and attitude. More motivation to live fully! Hugs….❤

Brad, eerie to read your haikus as they reflect my inner musings and mood exactly … shrouded so much by darkness, trying to look beyond this. Wonderful poetry and atmospheric photo!

I’ve missed the presence here on your blog, Brad! This was a gentle landing post as I had been away a short while. Sometimes the melancholic is so gentle and kinder than we think. Sometimes resting a little while in the fog is welcome. But what I really like is the way you wrote your poem and your exploration with your creativity. 💕
