Mushroom Hunting
~
colorful fungi
mushrooms fill the forest floor
a hunter’s delight
spores, yeast, molds, mushrooms galore
calling all mycologists
~
I had a blast finding and photographing mushrooms on my hike this past Monday. It was my first day out in about a month, and the forest was filled with an amazing variety and amount of mushrooms, fungi, etc. I guess all the rain we’ve has stirred a bloom in fungi. Here is a small sampling of all the fungi that I found. I don’t know their names, but they sure are interesting. I think it would be fun to go mushroom hunting with an expert mycologist to learn more about them and know which ones are edible. Any mycologists out there?
Wow, that’s an amazing selection of ‘shrooms Brad!

Thank you Sue. It was fun and nurturing to get out in the woods. I love the forest smells in autumn with the decay. We’re still hot and dry for now.

I, too, would love to hear what a Mycologist would have to say. Im very passionate about ethnobotany. So intriguing. I’m always amazed at how many varieties of mushrooms there are too. Nice pictures.

I especially like the turkey tail mushrooms. They seem to have medicinal properties. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/mushrooms-cancer_b_1560691

Thanks JoAnna. It sounds like you know more about mushrooms than me. I’ll check out the article. I know they’re finding value in mushrooms for environmental cleanup too.

Sounds like a great hike. The yellow one is intense and undoubtedly toxic. We have edible mushrooms in our woods and the start of the rain definitely brings them out. Happy Hunting.

Ha, ha. I haven’t quite gone over to the dark and moist fungi side! But a definite fascination.

I’m sure you had a blast taking pictures of them. We had a hike back then that I wished that I had taken the camera with me. We will be redoing that hike again and I will be bringing that camera, no matter what.

Yes, I had fun Leif. And other times I’ve missed them like you. Plus they seem to have a mysterious growth cycle. Happy Hunting!
