I find nature endlessly fascinating. This beautiful flower is a close up image of a common red clover blossom. The red clover is an edible legume found in much of the midwest and the northeast US. It is commonly used as food for cattle, and increasingly as a winter cover crop to bind nitrogen and protect the soil. The flowers and leaves are edible and the plant has been used for medicine in Native American and Chinese cultures. And despite the name, blossoms are typically pink. Their color and shape warm my heart with five soft pink petals and a tubular cone for each flower.

i so love clover! thank you for sharing their beauty and sweet enchantment. the blossoms are so tender and exotic for such tiny wonders. i am letting clover take over the lawns here and seeding more in next spring to have a full blanket of it! then i’ll lay in it like you!! and say weeeee!! lol!

Thanks Miriam. I’ve even eaten them. Not a lot of taste, but it’s fun to be able to eat greens and blossoms from the yard.

As a child I would often pick the petals and chew the sweet petals, bees love clover, and I still to this day look for a four leaf one 🙂 and have on two occasions found them 🙂

🙂 thanks Brad… My Dad taught us a lot about nature, finding mushrooms, what not to eat, etc.. We would go blackberry picking in hedgerows and picking hazlenuts from trees.. 🙂 As children we were always roaming a bit wild in our village lol 🙂

I know you do Julie. I’ve always enjoyed clover blossoms and the sprinkles of color, but I was amazed the first time I looked close at the details of the blossoms.

Yes! Good for high cholesterol, whooping cough, asthma, indigestion, (in women menopause stuff), yeah all sorts of things.
Left to grow in your lawn or wherever, it’s a good plant because it is a nitrogen-fixer, meaning less need for fertilizer! Plus, honey bees love them! All around, a beautiful tasty beneficial plant!
