This week Awesome Stories brings your hemp reform.
Hemp Legal Under New Farm Bill
This might be one of the biggest reforms to farming in the last 80 years. The 2018 Congressional Farm Bill, which included a provision that legalizes hemp in the U.S., was passed and signed by President Trump just before Christmas. As long as it is industrial hemp with THC levels under 0.3%, farmers can once again legally grow hemp in the United States. Although, states have the right to regulate or ban the use of hemp.
Hemp is an amazing plant that could have an enormous impact on farming and the environment. The plant, cannabis sativa, is one of the fastest growing crops and has been spun into fiber for about 10,000 years. It has a multitude of commercial uses for paper, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel, food, and animal feed. Promoters have long hailed the virtues of hemp as one of the most important crops for solving the world’s problems around sustainability and health. With its fast growth, low water use, and varied uses, it might transform entire industries like paper, fuels, and construction. This Wikipedia article explores the history and many uses of hemp.
I’m fascinated by this plant and grateful that we have made it legal to grow again in the US. Some countries like France have been using hemp to make insulation and hempcrete building blocks.
More and more health benefits are being found for hemp too. It is a great source of plant protein, high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Research shows that hemp can help improve skin condition, reduce inflammation, boost heart and brain health. And there are many uses and benefits for CBD oil made from hemp plants. A growing body of research suggests that CBD oil can help boost immune function, reduce pain, inflammation, and anxiety, and help with epilepsy
May we continue to learn from nature, and thrive in harmony.
I had no idea of all of these health benefits.

This is awesome news! I didn’t know this law was passed. 🙂 For years I’ve wondered why we haven’t embraced this – I like to buy “hemp things” to support the industry because it sure beats how much we have to cut down trees for the same things. But you can do so much more with it. I love hemp oil in the Brommer’s soap – it’s wonderfully hydrating. 🙂

I just happened to see a headline about the new law. It’s definitely time to use help to replace trees and many other less sustainable options.

So pleased to read about this much needed reform of this remarkable versatile healing plant.. As well as it bringing all its other uses as I have know and you have mentioned… I have long said the only reason this plant was made illegal was that its healing benefits would be ‘Freely grown’ and not come from some Big Pharma whose chemical compounds can cause chain reactions so other drugs are needed to counter attack side effects.. Who mainly put profits before people.. CBD oil has had remarkable results in helping the illness you mentioned Brad and reducing cancer tumours. Something to think about.
Many thanks for sharing this informative post Brad..:-D

Agreed Sue. Originally in the US, it was big oil and tree companies that shut out hemp. Thankfully, hemp can be grown again!
