Soulful Sunday 104
Love is the beauty of the soul. ~ Saint Agustine
This week Soulful Sunday explores the connection of beauty to our soul.
May poets and spiritualists believe, as I do, that beauty reflects the true nature of our soul. I also believe that external beauty feeds our soul and is essential to our well being. When we let our minds relax, become open and present to life, we can find beauty almost anywhere. I personally find beauty in very simple and ordinary things like a sunset, a leaf, a smile, a shadow, and much more. When I spend time in nature, it is easier to find beauty. Nature helps me relax, opening my mind and heart to what is. Then beauty shines all around me and I love to capture slices of beauty in my photography. I also notice that seeing and photographing beauty feels like a communion with nature. And when I’m most connected, the beauty flows through me, releasing joy that is sometimes reflected in my photography. With grace, those feelings are even transmitted to the viewer of my photographs.
This is the gift of good art; a direct transfer of feeling and experience. This is another form of communion that feeds our soul.
Beauty is the unexpected gift of being touched by something pure and truthful. ~ Annette
While I was pondering beauty, Annette from Beauty Along the Road shared this delightful post exploring beauty, both lost and found. Annette reminds us that we can’t own beauty. We can only find, appreciate, and share it. I highly recommend that you read her soulful article and let yourself touch beauty in words.
May you find much beauty this holy season of Christmas.
“Love is the Beauty of the Soul” – I really love that quote by St. Augustine. You point out the essential spiritual component of beauty so well, Brad. And thank you so much for linking to my post.

I could not agree more. Many years ago I heard a poem from a first nations person that started, “Walk in beauty outside and you walk in beauty inside.” Never forgot it and it has become a bit of a motto for me.

Wonderful post, I so agree! I also love the quote by Annette: ”Beauty is the unexpected gift of being touched by something pure and truthful.” Beauty doesn’t necessarily mean perfection – the most beautiful things that touch the soul are often imperfect or fleeting. That is why I love rainbows (I chase them in my dreams) and poppies, the most fleeting of flowers: they remind me that beauty is in the spirit within the physical manifestation – and it is eternal ♥

What a lovely and inspiring blog you have here! I will take my time enjoying your posts. I love this, that idea of beauty flowing though us from nature into our artwork: “When I’m most connected, the beauty flows through me, releasing joy that is sometimes reflected in my photography.”
