Lichen Yew
fungus and algae
symbiotic relations
glowing in the sun
~
I love how this lichen is almost a neon color and glowing in the sunshine. It almost looks painted on the tree. Some people dislike lichen on trees and believe that it is a sign of poor tree health. The science I found says lichen are completely harmless to trees and not an indicator of tree health. They are a unique organism formed by a symbiotic relationship between algae and fungus that grow on almost any surface. The fungus collects water thatΒ feeds the algae, and the algae create food for the fungus from sunshine. I like my symbiotic lichen friend. Therefore, the play on words, Lichen Yew! Β π

Even I don’t understand, why people hate lichens. For me they seem to be a nice little painting on the trees, rightly as you’ve mentioned.
