Sweet Silence

Sweet Silencepoetry, silence, peace

your gentle call beckons

whispers in my heart

a longing deep in my soul

~

memories of your sweet embrace

time to drop the busyness

rest my weary body

~

relax into your silent domain

as vast as the universe

nestled in sweet blessed peace

~

Last evening, I turned off the music, paused for a moment and experienced the peace of silence. As in the poem, my soul longs for the deep peace of silence. I find the silence of nature and mediation to be great refreshers of the mind, body and spirit. Or more accurately, great ways to drop the busy mind chatter and rest in the beauty of our souls. Maybe I’m due for a digital retreat. 🙂

  1. For some, silence is utterly deafening. To me, it is a refuge where I am able to recharge my physical, emotional, and mental batteries. It is sometimes difficult to completely shut off the chatter inside my mind, but when I do – when I practice doing so – the rewards are unbelievable. Beautiful poem Brad – the words wrap themselves around the reader in a very safe and comforting way. I especially like the last line – nestled in sweet blessed peace. Brilliant 😉

    • Thanks for your continual encouragement Dave. I’m not saying it always easy to find silence or peace, but last night the peace was instantaneous when I turned off the music and just paused for a moment in the peace of silence and beingness. 🙂

  2. Silence is Golden… And what I do Brad is listen to my heart beat.. And the noise often can deafen you LOL.. as the silence Swisshes in your ears.. But to quieten the chatter I bring my awareness back to my breath as the beat starts all over again.

Wishing you Peace within you Silent moments Brad.. and a relaxing weekend..

Love your green background too 🙂 and Header… Very festive
    Blessings Sue

  3. Dear Brad,

I’m feeling the pull to retreat, as well, my friend. Perhaps it is hibernation time in many ways. 🙂 🙂

Thank you for this beautiful post. And the seasonal look is cozy and welcoming!

  4. After I read this, I broke out singing the old Simon and Garfunkel tune “The Sounds of Silence.” “Hello darkness my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again, because a vision softly creeping, left its seeds while I was sleeping, and the vision that was planted in my brain still remains within the sound of silence…” Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Nice post, Brad. Hugs, N ❤

  5. A digital retreat is something I manage to do about once a month (usually because sites are blocked and travel makes it difficult), but it is always time that puts me back in sync with life a bit. This poem is a beautiful “feeling” that I wish I could turn on when needed…and reading silently has allowed me to do this. 🙂

    • Thanks Randall. I’m delighted that my poem could offer a moment of sweet silence. Gazing at nature or beautiful photos like yours is another way I find that feeling. Sometimes it’s as simple as taking a deep breath and returning my focus to the moment. Other times, there is no finding peace! Rountine digital retreats sound wonderful. Maybe that will be a new practice for 2015. 🙂

      • I think I may make the digital-retreats more of a conscious choice on my part for ’15. Agree, a deep breath can work wonders ~ wish you a great ending to the year and bracing for the start of a new one. Cheers to you my friend!
