Summer’s Last Breath

Summer’s Last Breathgarden, summer, joy, poetry

like Shakespeare she won’t easily give up the fight

flowers still blooming with secret scents and sirens in the night

heard by worker bees and butterflies who dance in delight

come feed and rest upon these garden delights

nature offering her precious beauty and lights

fall will come soon enough with her glorious sights

but I will not go quietly into the night!

My garden, like a faithful companion, is holding on, though a bit tired and dry looking. Here are a few last peeks before we go to sleep for the fall and winter. Or maybe I’ll do a winter garden this year if I’m not wandering the world. 🙂

  1. Brad, I think I’m somewhere between the 42nd and 43rd parallel, north side, and we’ve got some serious throwing in of the towel going on up here. You have to wear a hard hat in my neighborhood to protect yourself from all the hickory nuts and acorns dropping out of the sky. 🙂

  2. Beautiful garden, beautiful poem 😉 As a native of Pennsylvania and a Floridian for the past 15 years, I can tell you that the ebb and flow of the seasons, however harsh the extremes may be, seem to be a necessity to the soul for me, almost like a biological clock. Enjoy the fall – the crispness of the autumn air, the scent and color of fallen leaves, and the transition to an eventual new beginning to all the plants in your garden 🙂

  3. Thanks Dave. I also enjoy the change of seasons. Fall is wonderful with the cooler temps, seemingly brighter sky, colors and interesting smells. I grew up in Virginia and find the East coast falls to be more colorful and dramatic than Arkansas, but some years we have pretty good colors. 🙂
