Wow, what a powerful performance by Lebron James on Thursday night. He was at his finest, finally living up to his potential in a clutch playoff game. Long live the king! Maybe he is finally ready to claim the crown of basketball by winning an NBA championship. But that’s a story for another day. My inner sports nut is coming out lately, along with other aspects of my Gemini nature that may find there way into this blog. Will the winner be King Lebron or King Brad? Time will tell. Stay tuned for more excitement as we live our dreams.
Let’s explore the power of focused action.
In sports, this is often called finding the zone. This is where we know what we want, we focus our attention fully in the present, and we act in harmony with life. Like Lebron, we allow no hype, fear, worry, or reaction to distract us. Students like players, often fall prey to the distraction of hype with bold words. Dare I say affirmations? Yes, bold words can help us find the energy or excitement to start something.
Ultimately, the way to reach our dreams and silence our detractors ( including inner ones!) is to take action. Lebron showed us the power of attention focused intently on one goal. In his case, dominating a must win game with a command performance of 45 points, 15 rebounds, & 5 assists. He didn’t let anyone or anything distract him from his goal. I’m not saying we need to (or can) live like this everyday. However, if we want to achieve a particular goal, sometimes we need to just DO IT, as Nike reminds us.
More and more in my life, I’m seeing the need for focused action. Meditation, affirmations, and peak states are nice, but sometimes we need action to anchor our dreams in the world. We are taught by many gurus that being and intending are enough to attract what we want. From my experience, sometimes that is true, and more often we need to act on our good ideas and intentions. Dreams often stay dreams unless we have the courage and commitment to act on them. Life wants us to grow and receive our good, but we must partner with life, consciously co-creating with commitment and action. We reap the harvest only after we plant the seeds, weed, and water as needed.
Life will step up to help, when we take bold action. As Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe expressed so well; “Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.”
