Most of us are swimming in an ocean of information and choices.
If you’re like me, then it’s more like drowning. The challenge becomes how to sort, purge, apply, and integrate what is useful from this endless stream of information. We could also call this post the shadow side of mind. Mind can be a tool or a curse depending on how we use it.
I’m discovering the shadow side of choice.
The blessing of choice is that we can mold our lives however we want with thoughts, words, and deeds. The shadow side is that having so many choices can lead to hesitation, confusion, and overwhelm. Making decisions is not my best skill set. I love to scan, read, and gather information, but I tend to get bogged down in the analysis part. Wanting to make the best choice, we analyze, hesitate, or make no choice at all. By the time we’re ready to act, the choices may have changed or vanished.
These kinds of considerations have been driving me to make better decisions and to find a more holistic model of living. I see areas in my life that I want to improve and make changes, yet I’m sometimes unclear as to how to best make those changes.
We derive satisfaction from accomplishing goals, yet it’s important that they be meaningful goals. And guess who decides what is meaningful? We do. Therein lies the challenge. To make better choices, ask better questions like; does this choice feel good?, does this align with my values?, are we helping others?, or what would love do?
Intellectually we may know it’s better to choose and take action, but fear often holds us back. Too often, we make no decision, allowing life to continue without much participation from us. We can’t figure it all out ahead of time. We need to be willing to make mistakes, to learn, adjust, and keep moving forward as best as we can.
Welcome to the shadow world of mind and choice. Maybe it’s time to surrender to love! I’m choosing to focus on a few small goals, then move forward with love and care. My plan is to create a flow of better feelings, progress, and clarity built with consistent small loving actions.
I’m trusting that life is impacted in the small details of how we live here and now. When we inject love into our doings, then we thrive individually and collectively.
Something amazing happens when we surrender and just love. We melt into another world, a realm of power already within us flowers. The world changes when we change, the world softens when we soften. The world loves us when we choose to love the world. ~ Marianne Williamson
